Nuclear Probes in Nanoscale Characterization (Symposium ID 254)
Oral session: 02.254 1A3E: Wednesday, December 16 (Hilton Hawaiian Village)
Poster session: evening December 16 (Hawaii Convention Center)
Characterization of structures and functions at the nano- and subnano-level
in materials is critically important to widespread physical and chemical
research topics, ranging from fundamental studies in physics, chemistry,
biological- and geo-sciences to industrial and material sciences. The ability
of nuclear probes to detect and interrogate atoms and molecules offers not
only scientific elucidation of structure property relationships but also data
acquisition that may someday soon be utilised in a way similar to the
tricorder. Nuclear chemical methods including Mössbauer spectroscopy (MS),
nuclear inelastic scattering (NIS), nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR),
positron annihilation lifetime (PAL), muon spin resonance (µSR) spectroscopy,
and perturbed angular correlation (PAC) have been applied to such research.
The developments in nuclear chemical methods and their applied results will
be discussed across the range of disciplines aiming at the interchange of
ideas between different research fields.

Dear colleague,
IBAME, the International Board on the Applications of Mössbauer Effect rewards two merit based prizes:
the IBAME Young Scientist Award for researchers up to the age of 35, for high quality contribution to science based on research that involves application of the Mössbauer Effect and
the IBAME Science Award for a high quality contribution to science based on research that involves application of the Mössbauer Effect over an extended period of at least 20 years.
Dear Colleagues,
We would like to announce that a workshop on Resonant Scattering will be held on November, 7-9, 2014 at Argonne National Laboratory.
This workshop is organized as part of the COMPRES Education, Outreach and Infrastructure Development programs to promote the application of the state- of-the-art Nuclear Resonant Scattering (NRS) techniques for characterizing the properties of materials under the high P-T conditions of planetary interiors.
During this workshop, we plan to offer an introduction to the two NRS techniques - Synchrotron Mössbauer Spectroscopy (SMS) and Nuclear Resonant Inelastic X-ray Scattering (NRIXS) - and the CONUSS, PHOENIX and SciPhon software used for data evaluation. Much of the workshop will involve hands-on training with the software. Recent instrumentation developments at the Sector 3 beamline at the Advanced Photon Source, and added features to the new version of CONUSS and PHOENIX will also be discussed. Common experimental issues that users are confronted with will be addressed.

Dear Professor Gutlich, dear Philipp:
It gives me great pleasure to congratulate you, a Honorary Member of the International Board on the Applications of the Mossbauer Effect, on the occasion of your 80th birthday. On this very special day, let me thank you for all that you have done and will do both for Mossbauer spectroscopy and the world-wide community of Mossbauer spectroscopists.
Dear Colleagues,
Below I am forwarding the congratulation of the German Mössbauer community to Philipp Gütlich on the occasion of his 80th birthday.
Best regards,
Dénes L. Nagy
Happy Birthday, dear Prof. Gütlich, dear Philipp,
On behalf of the German Mössbauer community we congratulate you for celebrating today, 5th August 2014, your 80th birthday. We wish you all the best, have a great day, and we look forward to meeting you on many upcoming Mössbauer and other meetings.
Dear Colleagues,
Due to administrative and technical reasons beyond its scope, the Mossbauer
Effect Data Center has been forced to relocate its general
information web site from the domain mossbauer.org to the domain
mossbauer.info. Since 20 May 2014, the service has become available at
http://www.mossbauer.info/
Unfortunately, this unavoidable change has resulted in a high number of dead
links worldwide in web pages of the Mossbauer community. We apologize
for this inconvenience and kindly ask you to replace “mossbauer.org” by
“mossbauer.info” throughout your web sites.
