Dear colleagues,
ICAME 2015 in Hamburg is approaching: another exciting conference and
another Nuclear Resonance workshop with new highlights, discussion on
new projects and collaborations and dreams.
In the field of synchrotron radiation based experiments not only scien-
tific but also instrumental challenges are on the horizon. All four
big synchrotron radiation sources in the world are going for a major
upgrade/refurbishment, which will have implications for their nuclear
resonance beamlines. At the ESRF the Phase II of its upgrade programme
started this year with a major upgrade of the machine complex. That will
result in a 100 times more powerful source with respect to brilliance
and coherence enabling new science (see for details the “Orange book”:
<http://www.esrf.eu/home/about/upgrade/upgrade-programme-documentation/orange- book.html>.
The beamline portfolio will be under crucial evaluation in order to
adjust the new portfolio to the new science enabled by the upgrade.
After the necessary shut-down in 2019/20 the beamlines will re-open
for users in summer 2020.
Dear Colleagues,
the Mossbauer Effect Data Center (MEDC), in co-operation with IBAME, the International Board on the Applications of the Mossbauer Effect and the Wigner Research Centre for Physics, Hungarian Academy of Sciences proudly announces the public test regime of the new MEDC Directory, a further key element of the emerging Mossbauer Effect Knowledge Center.
In contrast to the old MEDC Directory, the new one is based on the active participation of Mossbauer spectroscopists who will take care of entering and maintaining their data including also direct links to their pages at bibliographic databases, scientific search engines, scientific social networks like Scopus, Google Scholar and ResearchGate by themselves. Thereby the new MEDC Directory may prove to be the seed of a future international association of Mossbauer spectroscopists. Moreover, the new MEDC Directory is directly linked to MIX so that new members joining the directory may request on registration to become subscriber to MIX.
Hungary has been member of Europe’s most poweful synchrotron light source, the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility in Grenoble ((ESRF, http://www.esrf.eu/) since 2000. The research infrastructure serving, in the first line, material structure and analytical studies is being used by about 20 groups from Hungarian universities and research institutes mainly in the field of engineering and physical sciences as well as life sciences. The annual membership fee of Hungary to ESRF is 245 thousand euros for which, however, presently no funding body can be identified. This practically means that, after 15 most successful years, Hungary will leave the organisation of ESRF, thereby closing the possibility of using this unique large facility by Hungarian scientists.
Dear colleagues,
we would like to inform you that the deadline for abstract submission for
the 5th NRS workshop in Hamburg 2015 has been shifted to July 10 2015.
Here is the announcement again:
Dear colleagues,
as most of you might know the 33rd International Conference on the
Applications of the Mössbauer Effect (ICAME2015) will be held in Hamburg,
Germany, from September 13th to 18th, 2015 (www.icame2015hamburg.de).
As a satellite meeting to this event we are organizing the 5th workshop on
Nuclear Resonance Scattering to be held at Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron
(DESY) in Hamburg from September 21st to 23rd. The workshop is jointly
organized with the Sapphire Ultra Optics for Synchrotron Radiation
Helmholtz-Russia Joint Research Group 402.

Dear Mössbauer Spectroscopist Colleauges,
I would like to call your attention to the conference /announcement/ below. It is a very importantsign of respect toward our community (and it is the initiative from the new Editor in Chiefof JRNC, Zsolt Révay)that in the program of a conference dealing with a very wide spectrum of radioanalytical and nuclear chemistry now Mossbauer Spectroscopy is also involved.
We are also interested to demonstrate where Mossbauer Spectroscopy can be usefully applied and serve research goals. (Here the focus is on chemical/analytical applications.)
Dear Colleagues,
the official website of IBAME, the International Board on the Applications of the Mössbauer Effect has recently been updated and is being further developed at
http://ibame.org/
Please visit the IBAME website from time to time and disseminate the idea of using it within your national and topical Mössbauer communities. Comments on the content and the format of the website are more than welcome at the address nagy.denes AT wigner.mta.hu .
Dear Colleagues,
since 1993, the main rule of delegating members by a national Mössbauer community to IBAME, the International Board on the Applications of the Mössbauer Effect has been that the number of IBAME members elected in a country were determined by the participation figures by that national Mössbauer community at the last three International Conferences on the Application of the Mössbauer Effect (ICAME). However, after two decades of this practice we had to realize that this approach became outdated. Indeed, results achieved by Mössbauer spectroscopy are more and more presented at topical conferences and also the role of regional Mössbauer conferences increased significantly. As a consequence of this fact, national communities having very important contribution to Mössbauer spectroscopy became underrepresented in IBAME or, in some cases, have completely lost their representation in the Board.
